Posting from our neighbor Mariel's downstairs pad - went inside the empty shell of our house and sniffed around. Sneezed and it seemed to echo for five seconds. Our last SF day has begun foggily, but we'll go out to the sunny side of the city later. Yuri says we must visit North Beach one "last" time (at least as residents of SF), so after breakfast with Mariel we will head down there on Muni. Mariel and Paul have been great neighbors these last eight years (nearly), and we have given them all the TV and stereo equipment from our house (can't take it to Australia - power/voltage ratings etc.) They put us up for the night and will drive us to the airport tonight. |
So far, we've avoided any disasters. I've been having anxiety attacks about the ways in which we could screw up (e.g. accidentally packing the passports in the sea shipment), but all near disasters seem to have been averted so far. Checkbooks were rescued from one box, rental videos from another, a signed copy of Douglas Adams's Starship Titanic game nearly didn't come with us. I'm sure we'll get to Australia and open boxes full of rubbish ("how did that get into the shipment?"), but that won't happen for at least six weeks according to Crown Relocations.
See you in the other hemisphere.
