Thanks you thank you thank you thank you thank you x1000000 to kitchenbeard who worked miracles with the food in our kitchen and made our farewell gathering a great success. I'm sure he'll be posting some of his food pics later, but now we must allow him his rest and recuperation after that marathon effort. Food was eaten, drink drunk, friends gathered with the inevitable questions: Why haven't we been doing this much more often? Why don't we see each other all the time? And the obvious answers - life is busy, tiring and short. Finish with those questions and enjoy the party.|
Guests ranged from a friend I met at the Sausalito startup on my first day in the US to ex-coworkers at my video game job to current co-workers (soon to be e-mail only voices), bar friends who became great buddies, visible online friends, Yuri's poetry friends, and neighbours of the last seven and a half years. We were too busy enjoying the party to take a lot of pictures - sorry for that.
Dax and Weensie were transported to their foster-mum's place in the Haight before the party began. The house is feeling empty without them, and it really makes it feel like we're leaving soon. Dax's presence has been a constant for me in this house since a month after we (G and I) moved in. The sound of her steps on the hardwood, snores coming from inside her cat house, rubbing against ever corner, coming up on the table for love and scritches whenever I'm typing. And Weensie too, sleeping on the couch cushions by the window, burrowing under the bed clothes, sitting on the available laps when the TV's on. Both of them trying to convince us it's meal time at 4:30 in the afternoon, Weensie drinking with his paw in the water dish, Dax chattering at birds, doing victory laps around the house after a meal (or a successful litter box outcome), both of them finding space on the bed, making a perfect heat trapping human-cat-bedclothes system. For six months we'll be waiting, you two. Be good while we're gone.
The house deal fell through - my lawyer says it's a first for him. Back to plan A - agents commissions (boo) but everything taken care of (yay). They'll tart the place up after we've moved out. I'll see an accountant tomorrow and stay on with the lawyer, and that should cover the bases. Car is in the shop being repaired, then we have only a weekend in which to sell it. Craigslist, I think, but a dealership sale if that won't work. See, life? I can take a joke. (See last post).
